Alta
Museum
Alta Museum is located in Hjemmeluft on the edge of Alta, by the E6
towards Tromsø.
The museum was awarded the "Museum of the year" award in Europe
in 1993.
The main attraction is the north-Europe largest rock carving field from
the stoneage.
These are about 2.500 - 6.200 years old, and is listed in the Unescos
world cultural inheritance list.
Inside the museum are historic exebisions, with a special emphases on
the German occupation time in Finnmark. The museum also has a cafeteria
with a spectacular view over Altafjord and a souvenir shop.

of Altariver. The distance to Alta is about 5 km. Route 93 towards
Kautokeino
